Stop throwing product ideas against the wall. Learn the secrets that 27 product designers from Slack, Facebook, LinkedIn and others have in common, distilled into an easy-to-read guidebook. De-mystify the process of uncovering ideas and turning them into tangible products.
“Your book is a bible for our Product Design team now.”
Most of the conversations I've had with product designers at companies both large and small get to this question — how do I know that I'm building the right thing? It affects everything from the screen you're designing to the product ideas you come up with.
So you scour the blogs, conduct endless “customer interviews,” and build your screenshot library for inspiration. But in the end, you really know that you’re just guessing — guessing who your customer is, what they want, and what you should build.
“Products today aren’t designed like they were even just a few years ago. This breezy, easy-to-read guide walks you through modern product design as it’s practiced in the field by some of today’s best designers. Both an overview of the field and a handy how-to guide, this book has something for everyone working to make products people love.”
You'd make better product decisions, faster. You'd end the ship-pivot-ship death march. You'd get over the "blank canvas" syndrome, rally your team to your cause, and create intuitive interfaces that your customers raved about.
On top of that, you'd stop wondering how products become "great." Yeah, you know the ones — the so-called unicorn companies who are always in the headlines, raising bajillions of dollars and supposedly attracting millions of fans. But since when did being great become more important than making a product that people wanted? (Fab.com, anyone?)
But the best part would be free of not knowing what to do next. And you'd never have to wear your old "on-demand innovation hat" on to come up with great ideas. It'd mean a singular focus on your audience and giving them a product that "just works."
“In a quickly changing space, Scott Hurff shares an informed, actionable perspective.”
"Reading this book will help you avoid wasting a lot of (possibly any) time designing a product that doesn't solve a painful problem.
Your ideas deserve this book. Your future customers deserve this book. And Scott deserves at least 1% equity of your company for making it a start-up that didn't bust three months after your next product launches."
"Scott’s new book connects the world of fast, startup-driven, design-for-mobile thinking with the traditional world of comparatively slower, “do-it-the-right-way” design and brand thinking."

The dopamine rush is as clear as yesterday. I was a founding team member of a Kleiner Perkins–backed online video startup, leading product.
And we were adding one million users a day.
These stats seemed to "validate" that people loved the product I helped to create. But the party didn’t last. We rode a wave of hope to over 20 million registrations until traffic died, interest waned, and the product was shut down in November 2013.
I wondered why it happened. How over 20 million people were convinced to sign up for something they didn’t want. And what led us to believe that this was real success.
The experience left me hungry to know how the best products are made. It led me to examine how product designers work, how they create products people want, crave, can’t live without — and how they do it over and over again.
This book is for all of those moments where you wonder why didn't this work? or what do I do next? Because walking through the desert, while a soul-searching experience, is an incredibly painful one. I'm confident Designing Products People Love will help you avoid having to do that.
Scott Hurff, author and product designer
I'm Scott Hurff, and I'm a product designer and author. I've worked at companies like Tinder, Kleiner Perkins-backed startups, and a pre-IPO ChannelAdvisor. I started my first company while in college, and became the youngest entrepreneur-in-residence at Kodiak Venture Partners in Boston. You can read a bunch of stuff I've written about product design over on my blog.
Yikes, sorry for rambling.
